On Saturday, June 26, the ensemble of pianist Chucho Valdez and saxophonist Paquito de Reunion will perform a sexteit. Both are members of the legendary Cuban group Irakere, which he founded in 1973 and was never disbanded. Their performances are among the most important festival events in the world.
There will be a lot of attractions sooner. The evening is scheduled for Thursday (23 June) at the Szyndzielnia hostel “Silesia from top to bottom”. The audience taking the cable car will listen to the experimental band Hizbut Jámm. The band, led by Rafael Roginsky and Bowie Zborah, explores music from West Africa. Mamadou Ba from Senegal cooperates with them. They will be joined by Noums Balani Dembele, a talented bassist and guitarist from Burkina Faso. The Rodziewicz quartet will also play in Szyndzielnia, whose leader in the “Baritone Saxophone” category won in the “Jazz Forum” readers’ poll.
Other attractions include Polish super trumpeter Piotr Damasiewicz Power of the Horns Ensemble, as well as a Cuban evening at Kavatina Hall during Saturday’s Gala. It will open with a concert entitled “Salute to Zbigniew Namesovsky” performed by singer Marie Romea and trombone player Jacek Namesovsky – the daughter and son of a recently deceased jazz musician.
Friday night at Klub Klimat “Okolice Jazzu – Klubowa Noc – Warszawa / Paris” with the participation of Polish squad Nervy and French Electro DeLuxe promises to be exciting. The latter is famous for its original blend of groove music, heavy jazz and funk, giving the pleasure of close communication with the audience. They have had commercial success in France, with nearly all of their recent albums being number one on the jazz charts.
A theater will be set up on the Bielsko-Biawa market square, which will be captured by the weekend’s dance music.
Wednesday evening promises to be interesting. US-born Danish drummer of Polish descent, Marlene Mazur, will present a band made up of Scandinavian jazz’s most important women, Shamania. This was the album title of this original formation that created great sounds on the boundaries of contemporary, ethnic, jazz and fusion music. Listening to this performance of improvised sounds will be facilitated by the melodic motifs of Scandinavian folk music.

The attraction of the evening itself will be the performance of the Polish Super Ensemble, led by trumpeter Piotr Damascevic, Power of the Horns, on a program from the album “Polska”. The band’s formation, with saxophonist Maciej Opara and pianist Dominic Wanya, is modeled after leading American bands such as Art Ensemble of Chicago and Sun Ra Arkestra. On the other hand, the inspiration for Damasiewicz’s compositions were Polish jazz: Piotr Wojtasik, Tomasz Szukalski and Tomasz Stańko. It will be a rare opportunity to listen to one of the most interesting Polish jazz bands. The Cuban Evening will open at Cavatina Hall during Saturday’s celebration of the festival with a concert “Tribute to Zbigniew Namesowski” performed by the band of singer Marie Rumia and trombone player Jacek Namesowski – daughter and son of the recently deceased great Polish jazz musician. We’ll hear music from their album “Depressed Lady.” Natalia Kordiak Quintet will perform at the Aquarium Café on Wednesday.
A theater will be set up on the Bielsko-Biawa market square, which will be captured by the weekend’s dance music.
