Evenings at Arsenal. Another chamber music festival begins in a magical place!

The 25th Jubilee Chamber Music Festival “Evenings at the Arsenal” Jana Stanienda in Wrocław will begin on Friday 24 June and run until Sunday 3 July.

The creator, creator and current artistic director of “Wieczory w Arsenale” was prominent violinist Jan Staninda, who passed away last September. From the current version, the festival bears the name of its founder, and a memorial plaque to the artist will be unveiled on the Arsenal Square in Wroclaw during the opening ceremony on June 24.

This is a special party for us, one full of emotion and sadness, but also hope for the future. After the untimely death of eminent violinist Jan Staninda, founder and artistic director of Evenings in the Arsenal, we pay tribute to our president and friend. From now on, the festival will bear his name and a commemorative plaque will be unveiled at the Arsenal. The program will include works that were important to Jan Stanienda, including. Famous Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber and Suite in the Old Style “Holberg Age” by Edward Gregg. The Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by an outstanding student of Jan Stanienda, violinist Roksana Kwaśnikowska. We believe the artist’s work will continue.

One notable Polish band – Chopin Piano Quintet, in operation since 2013 – was created by five instrumentalists, alumni of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. This year, young musicians invite you to an “evening” of mainstream chamber music. Fans of romantic expression will enjoy listening to the massive Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34 by Johannes Brahms. For those who love musical modernity, the works of the great Hungarian Bela Bartók await. You will be able to listen to Piano Quintet in C major.

Mozart piano

“Arsenal Evening” Sunday is an opportunity to hear from the star of our festival – Pyotr Alekseevich from Wroclaw, one of Poland’s greatest young pianist talents. During the Chopin competition held last year in Warsaw, Piotr Alexewicz won great appreciation and sympathy from the public and critics with his playing. The talented young man will play the solo part of Mozart’s piano concerto at A Major KV 414, accompanied by the Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra conducted by Daniel Stabrawa. In addition, the orchestra will perform the enchanting Serenade for Dvořák strings and the Romantic Serenade for strings written by Mieczysław Karłowicz.

“Guitar, singing, dancing …” – would you associate it with pleasure? Yes, it will be an “evening” with flamenco music, which has won the admiration of audiences all over the world. Flamenco has also entered the history of “Arsenal Nights” so far. This time, guitarist Rafael Cortes, who will be playing with the accompanying band, invites you to experience rhythms and melodies straight from Andalusia. The star of “Evening” is not only a great guitarist, but also a composer who combines tradition and modernity. Having family musical roots, his grandfather Octavio Cortes Maya was a famous guitarist in Granada.

An evening in Madrid

“Evening”, which will show you the colorful and varied colors of chamber music. What wouldn’t be here? Quartet, quintuple, eight … The performance composition of the individual pieces will change almost every now and then. The performers will include prominent Polish violinist Jakub Jakovic, and we’ll also hear chamber musicians playing from the Wratislavia Orchestra. The repertoire of concerts is very diverse, ranging from classics (Boccherini, Hoffstetter / Haydn), through romance (Mendelssohn-Bartholdy) to music of the 20th century (Lutosławski). A musical curiosity in the program: Boccherini’s Quintet, inspired by the nightlife on the streets of Madrid.

An orchestral “evening” with a talented violinist in the background. The outstanding Polish violinist Jakub Jakovic will play a dual role: as a talented conductor and conductor of the Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra. We’ll hear from the artists on a new romance and romance show. We’ll hear Young Sinfonia for Stringed Orchestra in D major No. 8 by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and Suite in G major for Stringed Orchestra by Ignacy Jan Paderewski. The direction of the gifted will be represented by: differences in a special topic, op. 15 by Wieniawski and foreword and Rondo capriccioso, op. 28 Saint-Saën.

An evening filled with jazz music

“Arsenal Evenings” star Anna Maria Jobik and trumpeter Pyotr Wojtasek invite you to an “extraordinary jazz journey”. The concert is another example of the fruitful artistic collaboration between the two protagonists of “The Evening”, which has been going on since 2019. The singer will play with the band Piotr Wojtasik Quintet. The program includes songs by Zbigniew Wodecki arranged by Piotr Wojtasik, there will also be some musical surprises.

ultimate fireworks

In keeping with the old tradition of “Evenings at Arsenal”, the final concert of the festival will be filled with Baroque music that our fans love so much. This time the entire program will be dominated by one of the greatest composers of the era – Jersey Frederic Handel. The Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra, led by Daniel Stabrawa, uses his famous outdoor works. We will listen to the wings of the orchestra “Water Music” and “Music for the Royal Fireworks”.
