The Film Music concert as part of the Sopot Film Festival, as in previous years, was a mixture of symphonic music, invited guests, and remixes of classical works. The program included, among others, the compositions of Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota and Hans Zimmer, as well as the bands Portished, Florence, The Machine, Eurythmics, Hoverphonic and Modrats.

Behind us is the 7th Film Music Concert organized as part of the Sopot Film Festival, which runs until Sunday. This time, Opera Forest mainly featured hits from films made in Italy. Paulina Przybysz and Justyna Świs performed on stage in the company of Sopot philharmonics, and Sebastian Lipinski of Tri-City Byty handled electronic remixes of the film’s work.

Movie music in Tri-City

Sopot Festival There are many interesting performances of art cinema, but there are also events related to the film. The film concert, organized for seven years, in the middle of the event, has become a tradition of the festival. It has become a music attraction for the third time Jungle operaOn Wednesday (June 8th), the audience listened to music tracks used in filmed productions in southern Europe. The theme for this year’s party was “La Dolce Vita?”. The ceremony began with works from Federico Fellini’s film of the same title.

Federico Fellini once called his masterpiece “La Dolce Vita” – the music I just heard – the real Tower of Babel, because the heroes of this film, although they speak the same language, cannot communicate. The music by Nino Rota can also be called the Tower of Babel, because it mixes different styles and genres – symphonic melancholy with jazz, pop, circus horns and even wild dances. All this to build the atmosphere of the empty streets of Rome, the loneliness of the morning to come, and an imaginary picture of the world of luxury, desire and decadence. She said music could do it better Magda Phylliswho runs the concert.

That doesn’t mean, however, that the soundtrack from “Sweet Life” just captured the jungle opera. There have been famous themes of productions such as: The Godfather, Hidden Desires, Malina, Great Beauty, Call Me By Your Name, House of Gucci, It’s Time To Die.

Sopot Film Festival program

During the party, we listened to music among others Nino Rota mentioned above, Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, as well as Porteshead, Florence, Machine or Hoverphonic in the arrangements. Polish Chamber Orchestra of Sopot Led by Rafai Janiak. As in previous years, symphonic music was supplemented by electronic arrangements and remixes of classical pieces. Most of the 20-plus songs sounded like a symphony, sung by the stars of this year’s concert live: Paulina Brzebiz and Justina Uys (Half of the dumpling team). All were accompanied by fragments of films, the soundtrack of which was played in the background.

Today’s party is special for at least three reasons. First of all, the musical repertoire is fully prepared, all the compositions are special for this evening, all the arrangements have been written specifically for the composition of the symphony orchestra and the invited musicians. Today we are all going to listen to this concert for the first time. Each year we also suggest a different theme for the party. When we chose the films and songs under the banner of “La Dolce Vita” a few months ago, we were convinced that after two years of the pandemic, it was time to propose a slightly lighter and more enjoyable music programme. Unfortunately, life likes to surprise us. Today’s party takes place in the shadow of war and we remember it. In March of this year, we put a question mark on the title of our concert, even though the motto “La Dolce Vita” in itself is a critical metaphor for what is important, beautiful and “nice” in life. She said: We left the program as is, but today, in all these circumstances, we want to invite you to a story about life affirmation rather than a celebration of it – she said Anna Kudzilla GroupmanFestival director and event initiator.
The appearance of the singers on stage several times was the brightest point of the concert program, which lasted more than two hours. They made new arrangements for songs from the films “Hidden Desires”, “Call Me By Your Name”, “House of Gucci”, “Youth” and “No Time to Die”. Polina Przybysh among others sang “The Glory Box”, “You Have Love”, “No Time in the Day”, “Bad Kingdom” by Justina Uys, “The Secret of Love” and “Here Comes Rain Again”. Both have done very well, especially Justina, whose sensuality and down-to-earth charisma pierces every song, not just out of her own repertoire. However, he provided the greatest dose of musical energy Sebastian Lipinski From the band Tri-City Byty, who prepared electronic remixes of movie songs, and subjected them to a complete disassembly. It must be admitted that the concert gets longer and longer every year – especially since the symphonic parts are very complex, which means that the mood sometimes disappears and gets distracted.
