Flamenco dance has also gained fans outside Andalusia. Therefore, lessons for this dance can be found in many schools around the world. What are the basic steps of flamenco and who can dance this Spanish dance?

History and characteristics of the flamenco dance

Flamenco comes from the southern regions of Spain, more specifically from Andalusia. Perhaps it was created thanks to the gypsies who lived in these areas, who would have arrived there in the 16th century. Its original form evolved to finally establish itself in the 19th century, when the modern form was created Spanish flamenco dance. His movements were influenced by many cultures, including Arabic, Persian, Jewish, Latin and Hindu. This is indicated, among other things, by the expressive hand movements performed by the dancers.

  • Flamenco Festero – A lighter variety. It usually also touches the emotional sphere, but in a more joyful way. It mainly dances in festivals and holidays.

Its origins are believed to lie in the pleated dresses, worn by market trades, that were noticed by the aristocracy, creating a richer version of fashion on their basis.
