What was the impact of Vatican politics in the 1960s and 1970s on the Church in Central and Eastern Europe? How do we understand the relations of the Vatican with China and the situation of local Christians? On what is the diplomacy of the Holy See based and do we have a chance to gain at least a minimum of insight about its meanders? According to George Weigel, answering this last question requires three steps back: first to 1870, then to 1929, and finally to 1962. This retrieval will also allow us to confront the first problems that are so important to us today. Meditations will be conducted by the world’s most famous biographer of John Paul II.
