The family “murdered” Simona Cusack three times. Documentary about Simon Cusack on MDAG

With a pioneering approach, she showed courtship, betrayal, and “long hours of love sessions” to the insects. She recorded an ashtray having intercourse in her kitchen while she was having dinner with her partner. She proved that fish have a voice when the microphones she had previously placed in the condoms were submerged in cans of water. Despite the difficult trials, she gave warmth to all creatures – including humans. You’ll see “Simon” at the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Festival.

  • According to the document of Natalia Korenka-Gruz, the daughter, granddaughter and granddaughter of the famous Kusak family abandoned Krakow not only because of the love of nature, but also because of very difficult family relationships.
  • The news spread throughout the region that a strange couple lived in the Białowiea forest, where they were greeted by “failed” animals.
  • Dziedzinka was captured by young starlings who had fallen from the nest, brought down hedgehogs, wild boars and deer, as well as hated by all crows, who stole wallets and workers’ wages
  • Thanks to Simona, we have also rediscovered the Białowiea Forest, which is beautifully shown in the photographs of Lech Wilczek

At the time when everyone was fleeing to civilization – to Warsaw, to Krakow, or in the worst case to Siedlce – Simona Cusack packed up and left for a forest inn located in the primitive Białowiea forest. There, almost from day one, the chasm between man and animal was closed. Throughout most of her life, she has demonstrated that humans and other beings can and should live side by side, because we are all temporary companions on Earth. In the courtyard, where she lived with Lech Wilczyk, she created a world full of tenderness, in which her complex and difficult personality, marked by many shocks, flourished. Together with her great aunt, Ida Matisk, we can rediscover not only the magical Białowiea forest, but also the mysterious character of Simona, sometimes resembling the heroine of a fairy tale. However, this is not a typical fairy tale for children.

Dzidzinka

During a night sleigh trip to Dziedzinka, Simona Kossak for the first time in her life saw a bull – a symbol of Białowiea National Park. The conditions in the forest hut were very strict. At first, she had to burn part of the fence to keep warm. It soon became clear that she would not be alone there. “We must admit that the Earth is not ours. We are fellow dwellers on Earth and we can, very inexpensively for ourselves, curb our appetites and let these other creatures live” – she said. And so Simona agreed to share Dziedzinka with photographer Lech Wilczek. Although at first the spouses had to get used to each other, over time they began to get along so well that they decided to cut holes in two huts and connect them in one house in which love blossomed.

It started with taking two sick owls. Later, the news quickly spread throughout the area that somewhere in the Białowiea forest a strange couple was receiving “failed” animals. Young starlings who had fallen from the nest, dropped hedgehogs, wild boars and deer were sent to Dziedzinka. Even the hated crow found shelter there, which not only pecked people, tore off motorcycle seats and drove children off their bicycles, but even stole purses and wages from workers.

While attending to her guests and doing her research, Simona quickly realized that she could learn a lot from them on her own. I noticed that man is an animal that does not want to see any resemblance to other creatures. She gave all kinds of pets and birds a home, but did not treat it as property. Even the animals chose their names. With some I developed a special emotional bond – with reciprocity. It’s hard not to be pleased with the beautiful photos of Lech Wilczek, for example with a photo session with a young moose that the couple adopted. In the pictures, we see Simona feeding orphans with milk from Coca-Cola glass bottles. Like a real mother, she took care of them and watched them mature, finally letting them be independent with passion. Unfortunately, it was also associated with suffering. After the death of Agata – a lynx who was like a child to her – Simon has been going through a real state of mourning for a long time, which also caused a crisis in their relationship.

The first, second, and third killed Simona

There is a reason why a woman associated with the famous Cusack family fled Krakow in a remote area. Thanks to the document, with Ida Matysek, we also get to know the difficult part of Simona’s story. As a child, the biologist did not experience the warmth of her mother who preferred her older sister Gloria. In addition, she was born without the talent for drawing, which is appreciated in her family, which tormented her for many years. She did not try social life until she was a student, because her parents kept her locked up at home after school.

There were moments in Simona’s life that her niece Joanna Cusack described as “killing.” The first was a treacherous bet between his sister Gloria and an elite man. The couple bet on the vodka case that a friend from a respectable family would not win Simona’s heart. After almost a year of efforts, during which he even managed to make a proposal to Simon and to visit the grandmother of the biologist with flowers, he managed to get her to bed. When he won the bet, he simply revealed his plan. He mocked Simona in front of everyone and rejected him. Simona’s mother concluded the bet by handing the man a can of vodka.

Simona’s sister also took part in the second murder, and most likely persuaded her sick mother to deprive Simona of the inheritance. Favored by her mother, Gloria, although she had talent and was an artist in the eyes of her family, it turned out to be a nightmare not only for Simona, but also for her daughter. The painter, succumbing to alcoholism, sold valuable family items to be able to party, and in Joanna Cusack’s eyes she was only afraid.

Finally, a third was killed by another family. Simona Cusack, who was already suffering from cancer, got into a serious conflict with Gloria’s daughter, Joanna Cusack, and lost contact with her beloved granddaughter, Ida. Ida Matysek, who appears in the film, plays an important role, not only related to showing us throughout Simona’s world. It also becomes an element that fuses cracks in rhodium. She also has a very emotional attitude towards Simona, to whom she owes a lot, and although she never fully understood herself – she probably never will – she still feels her presence.

Picture of a woman in the forest

Thanks to Ida Matysek and the authors of the documentary, we get to know Simona Kossak as a woman who often does not understand her surroundings – even her closest ones -; A rather magical character, very complex at the same time, who created her own safe world. In love with nature, the biologist did everything to bring the life of animals closer to humans. She was able to tame any animal, even the NIK controller, who fell to his knees before her eyes. Despite the difficult trials, she gave warmth to all creatures – including humans. However, when needed, it became radical. She couldn’t stand animal rights violations.

Thanks to Simona, we have also rediscovered the Białowiea Forest, which is beautifully shown in the photographs of Lech Wilczek. The photographer shows not only his partner in tender hugs with the animals, but also pieces in the woods dealing with extra brutality in black and white frames. Simona states that the forest is a virgin land that does not need a man and can never be compared to the forests planted by humans. It is unique. Just like Simona.
