- “Stranger in the Multiverse of Doktor’s Madness” der. Sam Raimi in theaters on May 6
- Benedict Cumberbatch returns in the title role, appearing alongside, among others Elizabeth Olsen, Zochitel Gomez, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Michael Stolberg and Rachel McAdams
- The first horror movie in the rich Marvel movie franchise was made – you can feel Raimi’s signature language of the movies and his love of combining dread and humor at every step.
- On the plus side, in addition to the excellent roles of Cumberbatch and Olsen, there’s a great visual layer, in many respects that goes beyond everything we’ve seen in the MCU so far, as well as a huge amount of emotion.
- The pace sometimes seems too fast, and the appearances of the guests are so numerous that we cannot accommodate them all. But what are the upcoming offers?

We lived to see her, even if not everyone was waiting for her. With the 28th film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fifth film in the fourth phase of the franchise, it’s time to update the formula, though plot solutions and surprising innovations were often offered by us and previous parts, with the latest “Spider-Man: No Way Home” movie. Anyway, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ appears to be a direct continuation of it – the events we are witnessing are largely the result of the transgression that occurred in the Multiverse while Strange cast the Oblivion spell. But not only. This It’s where Wanda Maximoff stands out, as the Scarlet Witch, showing why she’s one of the most powerful people in the entire multiverse.
The result is a movie that throws us into a whirlwind of incredible action from the first scene – there’s no time for subtle building up of tension, it accompanies us all the time. Perhaps because Dr. Strange had his hands full again, and very quickly his way across Chavez’s America. A teenager who knows how to navigate between dimensions, has two problems: firstly, she is unable to control her power, and secondly – she is haunted by a powerful and mysterious demon. And that’s about the story itself, because another sentence might spoil a lot of fun.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is the first installment of the Marvel Film franchise directed by Sam Raimi, among others, the popular “Evil Dead” and its continuation. Remy specializes in horror movies, so naturally before the premiere, people wondered how much he would translate into this movie. It has been translated, and quite a lot – arguably the first Marvel horror movie was made, but it retains its most important traits. This movie is scary at times, but funny in its own way – Raimi can combine dread with very specific humor, giving us just the right dose of so-called jump scares.
Characteristic elements of the creator can also be seen in the plot itself – isn’t the powerful Darkhold, used by the Scarlet Witch, the equivalent of the Book of the Dead from the movie “Evil Dead” in its own way? We will find more similarities. In addition, the corpse is very dense – often a corpse that we do not expect. The final itself is strange in this respect death dance.
Al-Raymi has dressed his films in a frame of visual mastery that we don’t come across every day, even in such super productions – one that the action haunts the action, so we don’t have much opportunity to capture even a moment’s breath, and second – we really see the great diversity in the multiverse offered. And we meet, of course, with more Dr. Strange – our doctor, as it turns out, comes from number 616 in the world, and there are at least eight hundred of them.
A lot of good can be said for Benedict Cumberbatch, who clearly plays with Convention, Zochitel Gomez as America Chavez is also great, and Benedict Wong has a lot of work in Wong. But the film was stolen by Elizabeth Olsen – in her release, Wanda Maximov became a tragic character. On the other hand, kami and guest appearances are so numerous that we can’t quite fathom them all. Anyone who knows the pre-release rumors and thinks they know more or less what to expect is going to get a lot, not least from having the Illuminati. A nice addition here is the obligatory appearance of the tireless Bruce Campbell, that is, Ashley from the movie “Evil Dead”.

Musician Danny Elfman, who previously worked with Remy, among others, did a very good job on the film. In his first two films “Spider-Man” with Tobey Maguire. The compositions of Elfman, a regular collaborator with Tim Burton, are powerful and gothic, combining orchestral and choral elements. So intense, it emphasizes the insane pace of action, but also the color of many of the worlds we visit. At the same time, the composer quotes colleagues when needed – in several places we hear, for example, the Doctor Strange theme from Michael Giacchino’s first movie (there’s even a Captain America theme by Alan Silvestri).
Before the premiere, the question often asked whether to understand “Doctor Strange in the multiverse of Madness”, one had to know the “WandaVision” series, one of the most popular Disney + shows, which will be available in Poland from mid-June. You don’t have to, but knowing the events in Westview allows you to better understand Wanda Maximov’s motives and feel the tragedy of her characters.
In short, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” provides us with insanely good entertainment and stimulates our appetites for more – we witness events that seem very significant from the point of view of the entire multiverse. And be sure to wait for the scene from the credits – but you don’t need to convince anyone to do that with Marvel. [5/6]
