This is the first speech of a Western leader to the deputies of the Supreme Council of Ukraine since the beginning of the war. Boris Johnson has confirmed that our neighbors will receive £300m in military aid. These include radars, drones, night vision devices, and armored vehicles for evacuating civilians.
Johnson: I believe and know that Ukraine will win
Recalling the situation in Europe during World War II, Johnson said, “Our Parliament, like you, has continued to meet throughout the conflict, and the British have shown such unity and determination that we remember the time of greatest danger as our best.”
This is the best watch in Ukraine. It will be remembered by future generations. Your children and grandchildren will say that the Ukrainians taught the world that the brutal power of an aggressor means nothing when it is against the moral strength of a nation bent on freedom.
They will say that the Ukrainians have proven with their determination and dedication that tanks and cannons cannot suppress a nation fighting for independence. That is why I believe and know that Ukraine will win
– The British Prime Minister confirmed. This is a reference to the famous speech by Winston Churchill, who in June 1940 called for courage before the upcoming Battle of Britain. This was his third speech about a month after he took office as British Prime Minister.

Johnson also admitted that the West made a big mistake in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea. – The West, in his opinion, reacted too slowly, did not understand what was happening and failed to impose sanctions. “We cannot make the same mistake,” he said.
The UK also pledged to provide the Ukrainians with funds and humanitarian aid, inter alia, Brimstone anti-ship missiles and Stormer armored vehicles with anti-aircraft missile launchers. Help should continue as long as it is needed.
Johnson said, during his visit to India at the end of April, that Ukrainian soldiers are learning how to operate 120 British armored vehicles in Great Britain, and that they are preparing to operate anti-aircraft missiles in Poland.

Part of the British opposition believes that Prime Minister Johnson is trying to score political points in this way. Local elections in England, Wales and Scotland will be held in a couple of days, and the outlook for the Conservatives is not good. The Liberal Democrats are questioning why the Prime Minister did not announce an aid package for Ukraine in Parliament last week, before the current session break. Could Boris Johnson be the last step he announces during a difficult election week? Party MP Leila Moran said it would be very ironic.
The costly modernization of the Russian army did not contribute to success in Ukraine
The British Ministry of Defense believes that the costly modernization of the army did not bring success to the Russians during the invasion of Ukraine. British intelligence estimates that the Russian Federation doubled its defense budget between 2005 and 2018. The investments were to include modern equipment for the land, air and sea forces.
The British also pointed out that the investments did not contribute to the success of the Russian army during the invasion of Ukraine. They point to errors in strategic planning and execution of military operations as major reasons for their failure. “The numerical superiority has not translated into an advantage on the battlefield. At the moment, the Russian army has been significantly weakened, both materially and morally. Rebuilding the military potential will be difficult due to the imposed sanctions,” states the analysis published by the ministry.
British intelligence assures that the defeats suffered during the invasion of Ukraine will have a lasting negative impact on the combat capabilities of the Russian army.
